Employee Spotlight – Lori Hoagland
Meet Lori Hoagland, Executive Vice President, Operations and IT Talent
How has your career grown since starting at Marcum Search?
I came to Marcum 4 years ago to help expand the IT division, and since then, I have become the Head of IT Talent at Marcum LLP, and also the EVP of Operations for the firm. So I have a lot more on my plate. Working directly with our COO, I am proud that together we have streamlined expenses and increased resources for our staff, as well as seen a significant increase in supporting the IT needs of new and current clients.
In my career I am most proud of…
This is a hard one, as I’m on my “4th career”, starting as a developer/BA/IT Group Manager at Prudential in both Life and Health Insurance, working as a Tech Writer for 2 major pharmaceutical companies, and even as a product designer for a small accounting software before going into recruiting. I think I’m most proud of the fact that I was never afraid to leave my comfort zone and try a totally new job, always building on prior experiences. I’m also thankful I had hiring managers who took the risk on hiring me into something completely new.
My favorite quote is…
Life is a journey to be travelled, not a goal to be achieved, so enjoy the ride.
Three words to describe myself…
Maternal, caring, driven.
My perfect day is…
Sitting on the beach with a good book, slight breeze, cold drink, and no electronic devices.
Advice for my 16 year old self…
Make choices based on what you want to do, not what seems like what everyone is expecting or what is popular. The true friends will stay with you forever.
The person who had the biggest impact on my life is…
My mom- she worked 3 jobs as a single mother back in the day when very few families around us didn’t’ have 2 parents at home. She did what she had to do, and I try to live my life with the same attitude.
Number 1 on my bucket list is…
It’s a tie between seeing an opera live and spending an entire summer at the beach – would love to do both soon!
What is your best tip on how to stay connected while still practicing social distancing during COVID-19?
We’ve been doing ‘driveway’ happy hours- 10 feet apart and bring your own chairs, drinks and food.
